BSO’s Concert in the Park

The Bangkok Symphony Orchestra’s ‘Concert in the Park’ returns for its 24th instalment. An seasonal tradition, this free outdoor music series takes place on Sunday evenings, from late December to the end of February. The setting is Sala Bhirom Bhakdi, a pavilion on a well manicured lawn fringed by palm trees, in Lumpini Park.

Expect diverse musical numbers from European classics and works by King Bhumibol Adulyadej to show tunes and music from popular films. This year, there will be an emphasis on musical tributes to the late king. Each concert features guest singers and conductors, with programming in both English and Thai.

The setting is casual, relaxed and wonderful for families; small children are welcome and the music isn’t overly loud. It is a good idea to get there earlier to grab a choice spot as the area can get quite crowded. Bring a blanket or mat to spread out as well as bug repellent to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Also, as the concert begins at 5.30pm, you can bring a light dinner and enjoy a picnic (please note, however, that alcohol is not allowed in the park).

The dates for Concert in the Park 2016-2017 are:

  • Sunday, 8 January 2017
  • Sunday, 15 January 2017
  • Sunday, 5 February 2017
  • Sunday, 12 February 2017
  • Sunday, 19 February 2017
  • Sunday, 26 February 2017
