Bangkok Places: 5 Things to Do in Prakanong

Prakanong, bordering Suan Luang/Prawet/Bangna, Klong Toey/Wattana and Phra Pradaeng of Samut Prakan Province, offers a host of family-friendly options to keep the kids entertained, active, and learning new skills. Here are five places to check out.

1. Grandpa Urban Garden

Set on 400 sq.m of green space, Grandpa Urban Garden is dedicated to teaching  visitors how to create renewable energy and grow their own vegetables. It’s a great hands-on experience, and green-fingered little ones will learn a host of skills, including how to make compost, prepare sprouts for planting, reuse wastewater for gardening and power a basic irrigation system with a bike!

2. Amped Trampoline Park

Bangkok’s trampoline craze has taken off in a big way in recent years. Originating in Singapore, Amped Trampoline Park offers a smaller and less crowded option — making it a more appealing option for families with little ones. Along with more than 50 trampolines, there’s a dodgeball area, foam pits, slides, and a climbing wall. You can also happily bounce, jump and dive across a sprawling interconnected trampoline section. The staff are also super-friendly and happy to teach and demonstrate moves, as well as keep an eye on your kids.

3. HOF Art Space at W District

Spread across two huge floors, HOF Art Space at W District showcases the work of established and emerging artists — providing plenty of inspiration for creative young minds. On the first-floor art zone, you can browse (and buy) a diverse range of DIY handmade crafts, such as  toys, furniture and housewares. Head upstairs to the exhibition zone to see a rotating collection of artwork from established and international Thai artists. W District also has nearly a hundred eateries at its open-air food court, giving you a nearby option for an easy family meal.

4. Aree School of Dance Arts

Set up in 1987, Aree School of Dance Arts has turned out a number of seriously talented performers, while the school’s director (Aree Sahavejjabhand) trained at the Royal Ballet School of London. Available courses include jazz, ballet, contemporary, and Spanish dance. The ballet course also has a children’s syllabus that begins from Pre-Primary age 4 years up to grade 1 – grade 8, giving little ballerinas in the making the chance to  perfect their pirouettes and pliés with expert tuition.

5. Aroon Cookery

This low-key cooking school benefits from small class sizes, restricted to a maximum of four people at a time. This altogether more intimate atmosphere is ideal for families looking for a relaxed cooking experience, and the instructor and staff here make it easy to whip up a host of classic dishes with relative ease. After shopping for ingredients at Phra Khanong Market, you’ll get to cook a range of authentic dishes — interspersed with snippets of Thai cooking history and “neighborhood gossip and secrets”.
