Sand Handprint Craft

Growing up in Thailand likely means lots of time spent at the beach — capture those memories with this simple sand handprint (or footprint) craft, which is great as a unique and personalised gift too!

You will need:

·       1.5 to 2 cups of sand (fine or coarse), small shells and rocks (pick some up from your next beach trip!)

·       1.5 cups of all purpose flour

·       1 cup of warm water

·       1 cup of salt

·       Sheet of baking parchment or wax paper (optional)

Add the sand, flour and salt into a large bowl. Gradually pour in the warm water while mixing everything together. Keep at it until you get a lump of workable consistency, much like play dough. Add more flour or sand, as needed, to counter any stickiness.

Knead the flour-sand mixture and form it into a ball. Flatten or roll it out into a circle on a piece of parchment paper. The disc should be about 2 cm thick. Have your child imprint their hand or foot onto the dough. They can then decorate the edges with shells and pebbles.

To get the disc to harden, bake it at approximately 120 degrees Celsius for 3 hours. Flipping the dough over after 1.5 hours will help evenly dry the entire piece. The finished product will look just like an imprint on the beach!
