La Fille Mal Gardee at Rising Star Dance Studio

La Fille Mal Gardee at Rising Star Dance Studio

Rising Star Dance Studio announces its 27 th annual full-length ballet performance with our production of La Fille Mal Gardee on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 3 PM at M Theater on New Petchburi Road.

First performed in France in 1789, La Fille Mal Gardee is the oldest ballet story still performed today. The story and original choreography were by Jean Dauberval. The music was then rewritten, based on the original score, in 1828 by Ferdinand Herold, for the Paris Opera and this is the score Rising Star is using today.

Rather than princes and princesses, fairies and witches, it is a story of real people. Performances by Rising Star have become an eagerly anticipated mainstay of the Bangkok arts scene.
As director of the Rising Star Dance Studio, Fay Pansringarm, brings many years of experience as a ballet dancer, director, and choreographer in New York City to her work in Thailand, combining the charm of younger dancers with the powerful performances of professionals.

Associate Director, Yuko Nakamura, who trained and performed with the San Francisco Ballet Company, imparts her exquisite artistry as she mentors our lead dancers. Akira, Yuko’s daughter, returned to Bangkok from the USA, where she performed with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and the New Ballet in San Jose, California. She has been dancing at Rising Star since age 3.

Akira is partnered with “Toy” Chanakarn Panpijit, Thailand’s foremost male ballet dancer, in the role of Colas, Lise’s poor but beloved boyfriend. Watcharapong Kaewploy, professor at Rajabhat Suan Sunandha University who danced in Italy’s Teatro Oplas, appears as Lise’s mother Simone. Jittiporn Meethong dances the role of Alain, the silly but wealthy prospect for Lisa. Adam Kaokept, who appeared in the original Broadway cast of Aladdin and Miss Saigon, is a seasoned performer on Broadway and in international touring shows, taps away in the Clog Dance and as the Notary.

The cast numbers over 50 amateurs and professionals, ages 5 to adult, from over 15 nationalities, currently studying at Rising Star Dance Studio. The performance runs two acts totaling approximately 110 minutes, with a 20-minute intermission.

Rising Star is committed to supporting our community and will continue to donate partial proceeds to charitable organizations in Thailand. Our major donation will be to the Wild Animal Rescue Foundation of Thailand for their continued support of projects to rescue, care for, and rehabilitate Thailand’s wildlife. We also make contributions to several children’s projects and invite over 100 children from different charitable organizations to enjoy our performance free of charge.

Full Dress rehearsal/Press on Saturday, June 7 at 3 PM.
The sole public performance will be at M Theatre on June 8, 2025 at 3 pm.
