Bangkok is taking bold steps to bring climate education into its classrooms.
The 35 Hours Bangkok Nature Play Initiative is a pioneering program that empowers children with knowledge, creativity, and practical skills to respond to climate change—through play, storytelling, and immersive learning. It brings a play-based approach to sustainability and climate education directly into schools.
This first-of-its-kind program is a collaboration between Little Legend (Nature Play & Sustainability), the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and the Bangkok Department of Education.
Across 35 interactive learning hours, woven into multiple subjects, students engage in hands-on activities that connect environmental awareness with everyday life. Launched in early 2025, the program has already united city leaders, educators, and schools under one shared vision: a greener Bangkok through education that inspires action.

Official Launch
On January 15, 2025, the 35 Hours Bangkok Nature Play Project was officially launched at BMA Bangkok City Hall 2 (Thani Nopparat Building). The event was presided over by Mr. Pornprom Vikitsreth, Chief Sustainability Officer of Bangkok, alongside representatives from the Department of Education Bangkok and directors from nine pioneering schools selected for the pilot program.
“It’s never too early to teach young people about climate change. The more they learn, the more empowered they become to make their voices heard and drive change.” said Mr. Pornprom.
The launch marked a turning point in Bangkok’s education landscape—placing climate awareness and environmental responsibility at the centre of how young people learn, and paving the way for the project’s first educator training.

Educator Training
In March 2025, the project held its first official training, “35 Hours Bangkok Nature Play: 1st Training in Nature-Inspired Environmental Education – A Play-Based Approach for Educators,” hosted at Kiddy Club Houses.

With support from BKK Kids and SIGSENT, the training equipped every participant with an educator kit filled with tools and resources to bring climate education to life in classrooms.
Educators from the nine pilot schools joined Thai and international colleagues and staff from the Department of Education Bangkok, creating a collaborative space that connected global perspectives with local practice.
The session was led by Miss Panida Silpakit, Founder and CEO of LittleLegend Group and lead designer of the program.
“We’re here because we believe education can shape a greener future. At its heart, this project is simple: learning should be alive, playful, and deeply connected to the world around us. When we weave sustainability and creativity into everyday learning, we’re not just teaching—we’re raising a generation ready to lead change,” said Miss Panida.

Into the Classroom
Since the training, the 35 Hours Bangkok Nature Play learning program has been actively implemented across the nine pilot schools for more than three months. Classroom visits have revealed inspiring examples of climate education in action:

strengthening both environmental awareness and English literacy.

(Need, Enough, and Excess).

and nature walks—rooted in mindfulness and hands-on discovery.

encouraging a 3R mindset—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
The program is built around five thematic milestones, supported by 25 interactive lessons that guide learners from exploring forest ecosystems to understanding climate action. Rooted in play- based learning, storytelling, and real-world exploration, the curriculum helps children see how their everyday actions affect the planet and encourages them to make environmentally friendly choices.
Supporting Global Goals
The initiative directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- Goal 4: Quality Education
- Goal 13: Climate Action
- Goal 15: Life on Land
Looking Ahead
This is just the beginning of a larger movement to bring sustainability into classrooms across Bangkok and beyond. The program will run until February 2026, culminating in a public exhibition that will showcase creative teaching practices, student-led projects, and the collective impact of the participating schools. This celebration will highlight how climate education, when rooted in play, can inspire meaningful change.

The exhibition will also shine a spotlight on educators, honoring their creativity, dedication, and passion in making sustainability a living practice in the classroom. Categories will include:
- Most Adapted Technology
- Most Inspiring Action
- Most Thought-Provoking Teaching Approach
- Excellence in Hands-On Learning
- Best Cross-Subject Integration
- Student Voice Champion
- Peer-Nominated Outstanding Educator
In addition, a special peer-nominated recognition will highlight Outstanding and Dedicated Teachers chosen by their colleagues—ensuring that appreciation comes from within the teaching community itself.
