Bangkok Places: 5 Things to Do in Bangna

Kidsgswining in a park

Bangna’s location on the outskirts of Bangkok means families often dismiss it as a destination for a fun-filled day out. But with picturesque parks, recreational activities and uber-modern entertainment complexes, Bangna has a variety of attractions that are genuinely worth exploring. Here are 5 of our picks:

1. Harbin Ice Wonderland

In the sweltering heat of Bangkok, families with young children naturally need to seek out a place to cool down. What better place to do just that than in the sub-zero temperatures of Harbin Ice Wonderland? This indoor ice world features various attractions, including a miniature town of ice-carved global landmarks. There’s also a play area for the little ones, but the highlight has to be the fantastic indoor snow slide.

2. Suan Luang Rama IX Park

A lush 200-acre park on the outskirts of Bangkok, Suan Luang Rama IX Park is a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Built to commemorate the 60th birthday of King Bhumibol, the park’s immaculately maintained gardens surround a large central lake. There’re plenty of walking trails, themed gardens, a hedge maze, a kid’s playground and a designated cycling lane. You can bring your own bikes or rent them out from the park. There are also plenty of shady spots to enjoy a family picnic.

3. Mega Bangna

While the kids may not be thrilled at a day of shopping (although the likes of Toys ‘R Us and Toy Studio might change their minds), they’ll definitely find something fun to do at this gleaming shopping complex. There’s a huge cinema multiplex, a 24-lane bowling alley, an indoor ice rink and Ikea’s indoor playspace. When tummies start rumbling, head to ‘Food Republic’, a sprawling food court serving tasty, mostly Thai dishes. Other choices for international cuisine also abound.

4. Bangplee Par 3 Golf Course

Bangna is home to a fantastic range of golf courses, but Bangplee Par 3 Golf Course is one of the best for families. There are 9 testing holes to tackle and you’ll need to dodge water hazards on each one, as well as navigate the odd sand dune. Bangplee is also lit up at night if you want to avoid playing in the heat of the midday sun.

5. Taco Lake

Great for people of all ages and skill levels, wakeboarding can be enjoyed at Taco Lake Cable Wake Park, just off the Bangna Trad highway. This is a fantastic place to spend the day, experiencing the fun of wakeboarding, as well as wakeskating, kneeboarding and waterskiing, with a full circuit cable system that runs the span of the lake. There are a series of ramps and obstacles, and renowned 90 degree turns. Taco Lake provides all sporting and safety equipment, as well as offers lessons and advice.
