Rising Star Dance Studio’s Cinderella Ballet

Rising Star Dance Studio will present the ballet Cinderella on 27 and 28 May 2017 at the M Theatre on New Petchburi Road. There will also be a dress rehearsal/press performance on 25 May at 6 pm. Partial proceeds from the performances will benefit the Wild Animal Rescue Foundation of Thailand.

Cinderella marks the Rising Star’s twenty-second annual full-length ballet production delighting local audiences, old and young alike. This well-known fairy tale is set to the musical score written by Sergei Prokofiev, first performed at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow in 1945, with several sections from the Royal Ballet (London).

Rising Star’s director, long-time Bangkok resident Fay Pansringarm, has choreographed her own rendition of the ballet incorporating a delightful array of dancing mice, pumpkins, horses, and fairies. Fay brings many years of experience as a ballet dancer, director, and choreographer in New York City to her productions.

Maho Mashimo, a former Rising Star student stars as the lovely Cinderella. Miss Mashimo trained at the Rock School, one of America’s foremost elite ballet academies. Her Prince will be danced by Anurak Ngamta, Thailand’s foremost male ballet dancer and lead dancer in musicals and dance productions in Malaysia, Japan, and Thailand. He delighted audiences nationwide with his performance of “Heart and Soul” on “Thailand’s Got Talent.”

Rising Star’s associate director Yuko Nakamura who herself danced the lead role in the 2011 production, imparts her exquisite artistry and years of experience mentoring this year’s dancers. Miss Nakamura previously trained and performed with the San Francisco Ballet Company

Following tradition, the wicked Stepmother and Stepsisters are performed by male dancers. Popular Thai musical artist and accomplished ballet dancer Arkkand Wapakpetch guarantees a wickedly masterful performance as the Stepmother. Two of Thailand’s best male ballet dancers, Itthipat Semarat (assistant choreographer of Thai TV’s “The Star” and musical “Lom Hai Jai”) and Padparascha Kaewploy (a professor at Rajabhat Suan Sunandha University who danced in Italy’s Teatro Oplas), add a hilarious touch to the show as the Stepsisters.

Also dancing are almost 100 students and teachers of Rising Star Dance Studio, ages 4 to adult, from over 25 nationalities.

Performances on 27 and 28 May start at 2:30 pm and run two acts, totaling approximately 95 minutes, plus a 20-minute intermission. Ticket prices are 900 baht.
