Rising Star Presents “La Fille Mal Gardee” Ballet

This year, Rising Star Dance Studio presents La Fille Mal Gardee (“The Badly Guarded Girl”) Ballet, the world’s oldest but still performed ballet story. Performances are on June 2 and 3, 2018, at 2:30 pm, at the M Theater on New Petchburi Road. There will also be a dress rehearsal/press performance on May 31st at 6 pm. Partial proceeds from the performances will benefit the Wild Animal Rescue Foundation of Thailand.

La Fille Mal Gardee is one of the first ballets about “real people” rather than kings, queens, or gods. First performed in Bordeaux, France, in 1789, it is a simple and familiar love story which takes place in the French countryside – boy meets girl, problems arise and are overcome, boy and girl end up happily ever after. It is an established part of the repertory of ballet companies worldwide.

Rising Star Dance Studio’s annual full-length ballet performances have been a yearly highlight for local audiences, old and young alike, since 1995. Productions are directed and choreographed by Rising Star’s director, Fay Pansringarm, who brings her many years of experience as a dancer, director, and choreographer in New York City.

Maho Mashimo, a former Rising Star student, stars as Lise. Miss Mashimo trained at the Rock School, one of America’s foremost elite ballet academies. Her boyfriend Colas will be danced by Anurak Ngamta, Thailand’s foremost male ballet dancer and lead dancer in musicals and dance productions in Malaysia, Japan, and Thailand.

Rising Star’s associate director Yuko Nakamura, who herself danced the lead role in the 2002 and 2010 productions, imparts her artistry and years of experience mentoring this year’s dancers. Miss Nakamura previously trained and performed with the San Francisco Ballet Company. Also dancing are almost 100 students of Rising Star Dance Studio, ages 4 to adult, from over 20 nationalities.

La Fille Mal Gardee encompasses two acts, totaling approximately 110 minutes, plus a 20-minute intermission.
