Bangkok Faces: Ian and Sara Soo, Co-Founders, PassionDelivery.com

Your Names: Ian & Sara Soo

Job Title: Co Founders of PassionDelivery.com

What is your nationality and background?

Ian: I am British and my background is in investment banking in London. I left banking and came to Thailand in 2002.  Since then I have worked as an English teacher and started a few companies, the latest being PassionDelivery.com.

Sara: I’m Thai and worked in the seafood industry before setting up PassionDelivery with Ian.  We share a love of food which inspired us to start this business.

What is your profession?

Entrepreneurs!

What are the key skills and responsibilities of this role?

Our roles are many and varied but the keys ones are: 1) putting together a great team who can ensure PassionDelivery gives the best possible consumer experience; 2) helping to manage the complex logistics and processes that are necessary to make this business a success; 3) testing all the vendors food and drink products to ensure the quality is high; and 4) being responsible for marketing strategy so that as many people know about PassionDelivery as possible!

How did you get involved in your profession?

We have been fans of the various farmers markets for a long time but it was hard to find these products at other times or for each vendor the minimum order required for delivery was too high.  We thought that if there was a website where you could order all these high quality artisan foods and drink we would certainly use it.  When we found that there were none, we decided to start PassionDelivery.

How does your role enhance the wellbeing or experience of children?

We have two young children and want them to eat healthy delicious food. We believe PassionDelivery fills a very important need as we deliver high quality food and drink right to your door.  It means busy parents can use our service and save themselves a great deal of time as well as it being very convenient.  This means the whole family can cook and enjoy healthy quality meals any time.

What challenges do your face in this role?

This kind of business requires many different processes in order for it to run smoothly.  For example if the baker’s oven is broken one morning, that will have a knock on effect for all our customers’ orders.  Managing the constant changes is not easy.  Also with any new business, you have to work long hours and with two young kids, you have to plan carefully to get a good work life balance.

What do you hope to achieve within your industry?

We aim to become well known in Thailand for delivering great quality artisan products to people with a seamless customer experience.

Who or what inspires you?

Our inspiration comes from family and friends.  They have taught us how to keep everything in perspective and to appreciate life.  We only have a limited time on earth and that means doing the best we can every single day.

Only a Bangkok local would know…

Bangkok is a hard place to leave once you are here.  It is chaotic yet has a charm that is hard to find elsewhere. Whether that is the delicious food stall in Chinatown or jogging in Rama 9 park early in the morning, it is a pleasure to be here!
