Bangkok Places: 5 Things to Do in Thonglor

More than a hotspot for nightlife and dining, Thonglor or Sukhumvit 55 offers many activities, including a range of classes, for kids. Below are our top 5 picks.

1. White Ball Golf Academy

Run by a team of PGA certified golf instructors, this indoor golf centre is dedicated to improving the skills of first time players and seasoned pros alike. It’s particularly great for the kids thanks to its range of ‘Junior Classes.’ Available for children aged 4 and upwards, lessons are given in after-school classes, during weekends and over the school holidays. Golf simulators and multi-angle video recording are used to hone skills, while a gifted student program is also available for promising youngsters.

2. Little Gym Thonglor

Here, it’s all about getting kids moving in a fun way, with physical activities to burn boundless energy, build flexibility and strength, develop balance and coordination, and encourage overall fitness. Suitable for babies to kids 12 years in age, group classes include parent/child classes for the tots, pre-school movement and games, and grade school classes, with beginner, intermediate and advanced tumbling and apparatus skills.

3. Rising Star

Located in the Fifty-Fifth Plaza at Thonglor Soi 2, this studio features dance classes for kids ages 3 and up, specialising in classical ballet. The youngest children start in pre-ballet, which builds flexibility, strength and coordination in a fun setting. Five other levels, from beginner to advanced, are offered and the year’s highlight is a full-length ballet performance on stage at the M Theater on Petchaburi Road.

4. Iyengar Yoga Studio Bangkok

On Wednesdays and Saturdays, children ages 6 to 12 can join a dedicated kids’ hatha yoga class, taught and practiced in a way that’s fun and accessible – and with all the benefits of yoga, including building strength and flexibility, boosting concentration skills and encouraging overall wellness. The class also gets students to de-stress and met new friends! The yoga studio is located in the Fifty-Fifth Plaza building.

5. Root Garden

At the front of Thonglor Soi 3, Root Garden is a flourishing green space run by a non-profit organization. Kids can water and weed the small plots of vegetables, from cabbages and corn to pumpkins and kale. There are also chickens and goats, which visitors are welcome to feed, as well as a mushroom cultivation area. A cosy café out front serves freshly brewed coffee – a bonus of parents! Weekends occasionally boast a small farmer’s market and live music.
