There is a world of difference between the Ocean World Bangkok aquarium, located in the Siam Paragon shopping mall, and Underwater World, Pattaya’s smaller cousin.

While Ocean World is a large, glitzy attraction, Underwater World is more of an educational experience. So, for parents who want not only to show undersea life to their children, but also want them to learn about what they are seeing, Underwater World is the place to go. With a firm marine conservation ethic that is demonstrated in their exhibits, Underwater World also has a constantly developing schedule of programs.

First opened in 2003, the aquarium has set up their facility to offer kids a thematic, virtual ‘journey’ from the sandy beach shore down to the depths of the ocean. They have also set up separate zones that provide different interactive experiences concerning the marine environment. They encourage kids to overcome their natural fear of the unknown and get elbow deep in their numerous pools and tanks and touch some of the more benign inhabitants of these habitats.

In addition, Underwater World actively raises the importance of conservation awareness, instilling the importance of keeping the ocean free of pollution in order to preserve the marine environment for generations to come.

The aquarium is home to many species inhabiting the regional and local waters. By introducing children to these species face-to-face, they are also encouraging the kids to develop a sense of empathy towards these animals, as they live in the same part of the world the kids do. In this way, they encourage kids to adopt a more protectionist philosophy of stewardship toward their own region’s marine wildlife.
