The National Geological Museum is a learning centre and tourism attraction for the general public. Located in Pathum Thani, about a 45-minute drive from Bangkok, it comprises a 4-floor building with a space of 14,000 square metres.
Highlights of the museum are dinosaur models, some of which move, and fossils in a simulated environment resembling the Late Triassic Period 225 million years ago, a time when the continents (Pangaea) existed as one land mass. The interactive multimedia displays feature both English and Thai commentary. Other exhibits of interest cover the planets, including the development of the Earth and the Earth’s composition; and geology, including plate tectonics, rocks, geological structures, geological exploration and the geology of Thailand.
The museum also has a 400-seat auditorium room, a temporary exhibition hall, library, souvenir shop, and canteen. Outside of the museum, an outdoor area offers more dinosaur models, plants, rocks, slides, picnic tables and areas for kids to explore.
