Nong Bon Lake (‘Bung Nong Bon’) in Prawet district, near Rama IX Park, is a man-made reservoir and scenic recreational area. It features a watersports centre that offers windsurfing, kayaking and sailing. Classes are based on instructor availability (usually in the afternoons, from 2pm to 4pm). Run by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the centre offers inexpensive annual memberships; bring two pictures and your passport or Thai ID card to sign up to use the facilities. Also, there is a 4 kilometre long bike and jogging trail that circles the lake. With good lighting, closed-circuit cameras and well marked lanes for fast and slow bikers, it is a lovely and safe place to bike with kids. Bring your own bicycles. The tranquil surroundings attracts lots of water birds, which is nice. And unlike public parks in Bangkok, Nong Bon Lake is dog-friendly. However, you may find that several dog owners let their pets run freely, which may pose a danger to small children.
