For babies and toddlers, group music and dance sessions are engaging and fun, and as for developmental benefits, they help nurture gross motor skills while channeling kids’ energies into creative, productive directions. Below are some local “music and movement” classes specially geared for the little ones.
Dance Centre Music & Movement Classes – Parents get to participate with their tots (ages 18 months to 3 years) in these fun 45-minute sessions, which combine music, yoga and movements such as jumping, running and jumping. Props such as tambourines, hula hoops and plush toys are used to pique the children’s interest. Classes are taught by Ms. Julia, a dance teacher at the Russian Embassy School, Bangkok; they are currently held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Little Pea Kids Commons features a Family Music for Toddlers class for children ages 18 months to 3.5 years old and their parent or guardian. Usually held on Saturday mornings, this 50-minute session follows the Musikgarten curriculum that helps young children develop a love of music and the ability to express it. Please check with them directly as times for classes can vary on a monthly basis.
Toddler Tunes is another popular music and movement class that is offered as part of BAMBI playgroups in central Sukhumvit. Props include music and rhythm-makers such as drums, tambourines and maracas, as well as a parachute. So much fun! Kidsmusic (Major Tower, Thonglor soi 10) also presents Kindermusik classes for babies and toddlers; these Saturday morning sessions are by age groups: 1-2 year olds and 2-3.5 year olds. Kidsmusic also caters to other ages, including infants from 4 months in age and older children up to 6 years in age — all with the focus on using music and age-appropriate activities and props to enhance a child’s learning and development.
