Located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, Santichaiprakarn Park (commonly known as ‘Suan Santi’) was build around Phra Sumen Fort, one of two remaining fortifications built during the reign of King Rama I to protect the city. The small park has become popular with tourists, especially backpackers, and young locals in recent years. Street artists, fire jugglers, skateboarders and breakdancers are common sights during the evenings and weekends.
Santichaiprakarn Park is a great place to visit and take in the sights along the river. Children will enjoy seeing the ships and barges, exploring the fort, and watching the indie urbanites do their thing. Across the street, Phra Arthit Road offers several budget eateries, including Roti-Mataba famed for its halal (kosher) curries and roti, and many retro cafes and shops. For an extra-adventurous day, travel to or from Suan Santi by the Chao Phraya Express boat. Phra Arthit Pier is a short walk from the park.
