The Princess Mother Memorial Park, fondly referred to in Thai as ‘Suan Somdet Ya’ (‘Royal Grandmother Park’), was opened in 1997 in remembrance of the Princess Mother, His Majesty King Bhumibol’s mother. Located near the Chao Phraya River, this charming little park contains lush gardens, a statue of the Princess Mother, a reproduction of her childhood home, and two exhibition halls showcasing memorabilia of her extraordinary life and contributions to Thai society. For children, this park is a wonderful place for exploration. Adults will appreciate its historical value. Most of the land is open, with plants and tree roots snaking atop crumbling old structures.
