Bangkok Community Theatre (BCT) is a voluntary, non-profit organisation of many nationalities that work together to produce English language plays for the local community.
BCT was founded in 1972 when the two existing drama groups (each originating in the late ’50s) decided to pool their resources and form one organisation. BCT generally stages 3-4 productions a year with each show requiring volunteers from the community to perform on-stage and to help behind the scenes. If you are not comfortable being in the ‘spotlight’, there are many other fun and challenging ways to contribute! Props making, set designing and building, costume coordinating or designing, moving scenery, prompting, make up, lighting & sound, ticket sales, publicity and fund raising are just some of the many jobs that need to be done in order to mount a successful production. BCT stages productions at different venues in Bangkok including recent productions at The Hilton Hotel on Sukumvit Soi 24, The DoubleTree by Hilton Sukumvit on Soi 26, The Alliance Francaise, Creative Industries and Blue Box studios. BCT monthly Club Nights are generally held the first Thursday of the month at Bistro 33 on Sukumvit Soi 33.
BCT sometimes stages shows that require child performers (i.e the musical Annie) and also regularly stages interactive fairytale plays that are performed by adults and targeted towards an audience of young children (i.e. The Emperor’s New Clothes, Pinocchio, Jack and The Beanstalk and more).
