Swimming Classes for Babies and Young Children in Bangkok

Learning to swim in the early years is one of the most important skills parents can teach their kids, it’s one of the skills that could easily save their lives. Infant and toddler swimming affords numerous benefits that contribute to the positive development of the child, both physically and emotionally. Lucky for us in Bangkok there are some great swim schools that offer interactive parent-child group classes, with a focus on the use of songs, games and water toys, to encourage babies and young children to learn the basics of water safety and become competent, confident swimmers.

Sadly drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death in children, so being able to swim is an essential life-saving skill. It’s important to remember that children who appear water confident are not always competent swimmers.

Bangkok Dolphins

Bangkok Dolphins’ infant program, designed for children aged 3 months to 4 years old, aims to educate parents to ‘teach’ their children water confidence. Swimming lessons are conducted in a fun and baby friendly environment where activities are tailored to each child’s pace and comfort level. The school maintains three facilities, including infant centres in Yenakat and Sukhumvit 39, with outdoor heated saltwater pools; and a new swim centre in Udomsuk.

Baby Pool

With teaching centres in Ekamai-Ramintra, New Ratchapruek, Sukhumvit 38, Bangna and Rangsit, Baby Pool classes are based on Australian and British swimming curriculums, teaching babies and toddlers (4 months to 6 years in age) to develop fundamental swimming and water safety skills through repetitive movements, songs and fun activities. Indoor pools are adjustable temperature and salted water units.

Baby Swimming Thailand

With 12 branches , Baby Swimming Thailand uses the methods and activities approved by the Australian Swimming Coaches & Teachers Association (ASCTA) and Swim Australia,  leading swim training and water safety organisations. Their covered pools are heated and salted, ideal for babies and young children.

Bangkok Kids

With pools in the Mengjai, Watcharapol, Rama 2 (Bangkok) and Ratchapruek (Nonthaburi). Bangkok Kids offers swim classes for babies based on the Birthlight approach, which promotes not just early swimming but also ‘water parenting’. This enhances the bond between parents and infants with specially designed movements that are both gentle and effective for the development of survival skills and swimming.

Lets Asia

For children from 6 months to 3 years of age, the Little Splashers programme, based in Sukhumvit 31, starts with parents helping kids learn to enjoy the water. The goal is to have the children swim alone out to the parent up to 3 metres away. Once the child can swim alone and is around 2.5 to 3 years of age, they will swim without the parent in a smaller class with just the instructor.

Little Whale

Located in Soi La Salle (Sukhumvit 105), Little Whale features a teaching team trained under the Swimming Australia Teacher of Babies & Toddlers (ASCTA) curriculum. Their specialised baby and toddler swim programme encompasses exploration and play; songs and challenges; and safe practices around water.

Manta Kids

Developed for children from 4 months to 6 years, the Manta Kids programme follows the curriculum of Swim Australia, a leading learn-to -swim and water safety authority. Based in the Ratchapruek area of Nonthaburi, the school focuses on basic swimming techniques, underwater survival skills and water confidence.
