Fantastic Value: Sunday Brunch at The Square, Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit Sukhumvit

Sundays are made for food, family and friends, and we are blessed with a great selection of culinary delights in Bangkok. But if you’re looking for something a little special (and fit for children), then a trip to The Square at Novotel Bangkok Ploenchit Sukhumvit is in order.

You won’t find a more hands-on team of staff, all cooking food freshly for you, to your specific requirements; nothing is too much bother. If you want a dish that’s not available, the staff will do what they can to provide it for you, which is a dream come true when dining with toddlers and kids!

The selection of food is quite overwhelming, and pleasantly, there is a large range of Thai food. A stand out for us was the sushi stand. Thankfully, our family loves sushi, and the children were mesmerised by the chef who was carefully calving the salmon. It was a mini sushi masterclass. Also, the Indian cuisine was some of the best we’ve had in Bangkok, and we’ve had a lot!

Seafood was another highlight. A ‘freshly cooked’ stand of muscles, clams, squid and crab was followed by an open barbeque where you can watch your rock prawns being cooked by a dedicated team of barbeque experts.

If western food is more your family’s thing, there were three different roasts being served with a variety of vegetables and sauces. As a family from the UK, it was a real taste of home. Ham, beef and lamb (with mint sauce) were devoured with gusto with time spent on seconds, thirds and in one case, fourths.

Freshly baked pizzas and fresh pastas we also available, which made everyone very happy.

Not only was the food fantastic, but the space and facilities lend themselves well to a family of all ages. A designated play area, with friendly and helpful staff, is open for children to play, do crafts, watch movies and generally enjoy themselves. As well as the main restaurant areas, there’s also a private room that can be reserved at no additional expense. The room holds around 20 people and is a lovely place to eat if there are a few families looking for some privacy from the main dining space.

The desert choices were vast, from crepes to mango sticky rice – all delicious. We often rate a good restaurant on their quality of mango sticky rice (I had three portions!).

The hotel is conveniently located a few steps from the Ploenchit BTS station. If you’re driving, there is plenty of free parking at Novotel. Sunday morning traffic in town makes going for brunch by car very easy and painless.

The brunch price for adults is 1,699 baht but if you book online, there’s a fantastic discount reducing the price to 1,021 baht per adult including free flow alcohol and soft drinks, not to mention the weekly signature cocktails such as Mojitos, Cosmopolitans and Mai Tais. The under 6s eat for free. There is a 30% discount on all food if you’re having a staycation at Novotel.

Novotel Ploenchit also caters to children’s birthday parties – get more details on packages and offerings from the restaurant’s management.

And finally, something that is important to those living in Bangkok is ensuring that the places where we spend our money are conducting themselves ethically and supporting local charities. Novotel Ploenchit donates food, clothes, toys and funds to The Good Shepherd Sisters in Klong Toey.
