Family Fun at Wonderfruit

Wonderfruit campus

Music and arts festivals aren’t typically kid-friendly but the upcoming Wonderfruit festival in Pattaya makes a great effort to cater to families. An eco-conscious music, arts and food fest, the event is held from the afternoon of Thursday, 17 December to Sunday, 20 December at the Fields at Siam Country. Bursting in colour and creativity, it promises a fun, enriching experience for all, from toddlers to teens — and their parents.

Camp Wonder, the dedicated kids’ arena, features diverse hands-on activities, including free running workshops by free running legends, Team Farang; traditional kite making workshops; yoga sessions; circus school; storytelling and more. Kids can also learn about food, the environment and the world, and how they can live consciously and responsibly. There’s a fully functioning onsite farm where they can learn how food is grown, getting their hands dirty, and later watch the farmer and chef forage and cook.

Parents can either join their kids in these activities or venture off and explore on their own; for the latter, they must book the professional on-site nanny service in advance (children under 21 must be accompanied by an adult at all times). Families also have the option of staying in spacious, air-conditioned bell tents. These are large enough for a family of four, with access to private food and beverage outlets. This allows participants to leisurely wander back and forth between the festival and their accommodations. Wonderfruit also shuttles guests to and from nearby partner hotels.

This year, the talented performer lineup includes legendary hip hop artist Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def), R&B duo Rhye and the stunning fire-breathing cirque performers of Lucent Dossier Experience, among other performers.

Foodie parents will appreciate the Theatre of Feasts, a showcase of culinary delights prepared by award-winning Chef Gaggan, as well as fare from Hong Bao, Bad Motel, Fillets, Broccoli Revolution, Rocket, Peppina, Maison Jean Phillipe, Moo Ping Hea Owen and more than 20 traditional Thai street food outlets.

And of course, to further encourage creative flow and talent of all kinds, Wonderfruit presents a variety of artists and artwork. Bangkok’s own Paron School of Art will be there with The Aviary, a site-specific installation that brings the magic of art to life. Participants are welcome to help create this nature-inspired structure that will interact with the local ecology of Wonderfruit.

Simply put, Wonderfruit is cool, creative and conscious — with something for the whole family in four brilliant, beautiful days.
