Visiting Mega Bangna with Kids

During the heat of the day, the air conditioned bliss of Bangkok’s shopping malls offer welcome relief for families. And at the sprawling Mega Bangna, parents looking to keep children entertained will find a range of activities, entertainment and dining options, including:

Major Cineplex

Treat the kids to a bucket of popcorn and catch the latest Hollywood movie at this 15-screen cinema complex on the second floor. This super-modern theatre is just as swish as the rest of the Bangkok-wide chain, with comfy seats, impressive surround sound and huge screens that make for a truly immersive cinematic experience. Ticket prices generally range between 150-250 Baht (although expect to pay more for premium seats), making this one of the most affordable ways to enjoy a couple of hours of family time.

Sub Zero Ice Skate Club

You can easily forget the fact it’s 30 degrees outside when you pull on skates and hit the rink at Sub Zero. There are several branches around Bangkok, and this particular branch covers a huge 1,000 square meters – so plenty of space to glide, pirouette or tumble (depending on experience levels!) The rink is open to all ages, so adults can skate hand in hand with the kids to keep them steady on their feet. All told, this is the perfect place to cool off and pack in some fun on a sweltering Bangkok day.

IKEA

In addition to a good variety of kids’ furniture, toys and art supplies, IKEA also features Småland, a supervised playroom near the entrance. Those 4 to 12 years and 9 months can become a Smålish citizen where they receive a passport for collecting stickers, Smålish dållars, and discounted food coupons at IKEA’s restaurant. The latter is a hit with families with its child-friendly fare, good value for money and casual seating, including sofas.

Kidzoona Molly Fantasy

This indoor play zone, with multiple branches across Bangkok. is split into two different areas: 1. Molly Fantasy, including coin-operated rides and arcade games; and 2. Kidzoona, a soft play area with inflatable slides, a ball pit, a climbing frame, and a miniature town that lets children try out a range of different jobs, from running food shops to working at a florist, construction site and more.

Food Republic

Given that Mega Bangna has over 100 cafes and restaurants to pick from, finding somewhere to eat is never a struggle. But for a quick and easy option, ‘Food Republic’ is hard to beat. Located on the second floor, this expansive food court essentially offers a family-friendly street food experience in a clean and comfy environment. Dishes are predominantly Thai, but there are also Chinese, Indian and Japanese cuisines available from the huge selection of cooking stations.

Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl

It’s hard not to get competitive at Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl, a neon-lit 24-lane bowling alley located opposite Food Republic. This super-modern bowling complex is great fun with kids of all ages, and you can also request bumpers to be placed alongside the lanes to make life easier for younger ones. In addition to the bowling, there’s a 25-room karaoke complex complete with comfy couches and disco lighting that you can adjust to suit your mood.

Mr. Jones’ Orphanage

Serving up a deliciously tempting selection of sweet treats, Mr. Jones’ Orphanage is sure to put big smiles on little faces. With outlets across Bangkok, this ever popular dessert cafe is filled with teddy bears, wooden trains and cartoon drawings. Indulgent treats include The Chocky Mud Pie, Kit Kat Cake, Ferrero Chocolate and Lemon Meringue. Savoury dishes are also available, but frankly, they play second fiddle to the selection of decadent desserts.
