When the mercury rises, beat the heat at one of Bangkok’s water parks or water sports venues.
Fantasia Lagoon Water Parks
With branches at The Mall Ngamwongwan, Bang Khae and Bang Kapi, Fantasia Lagoon provides hours of swimming, splashing and sliding fun. In addition to shallow pools and water playgrounds for the little ones, the park offers large slides, whirlpools and a lazy river. Fantasia Lagoon parks are situated on the top floor of the malls, featuring expansive city views from atop the tallest slides.
Siam Park City
Take a day trip to Siam Park City on the outskirts of Bangkok. In operation for over three decades, Siam Park is the city’s most famous recreational water park, featuring swimming pools, towering waterslides and a huge simulated wave pool. One highlight is the 400-metre Super Spiral waterslide. The complex also encompasses an amusement park.
Flow House Bangkok
In central Sukhumvit, Flow House Bangkok is an easy escape from the city heat. Older kids will love the adrenaline rush they get from the FlowRider, a simulated wave surfing machine. Equipment and instructors are on-hand for flowboarders of all levels. The facilities also include a plunge pool, bar and restaurant.
Taco Lake Cable Wake Park
Located near Suvarnabhumi Airport, the freshwater Taco Lake Cable Wake Park offers wakeboarding, wakeskating, kneeboarding and waterskiing, utilizing a four-cornered pulley system. It’s a fantastic place for beginner and expert riders to cool off from the heat. All safety and sporting equipment are provided, food is available on the premises, and you can opt to stay overnight at an inexpensive on-site hotel.
Thai Wake Park
Less than an hour away from the city centre, Thai Wake Park in Lumlukka, Pathum Thani, features bigger jumps and ramps, compared to Taco Lake. These may seem more intimidating for novices, but the park’s five-cornered pulley system actually makes turns less harsh. Thai Wake Park offers safety and sporting equipment, private coaches, a restaurant and café, and on-site accommodations.
Nong Bon Lake Water Sports Centre
Behind Seacon Square shopping mall and next to Suan Luang Rama IX Park, Nong Bon Lake Water Sports Centre provides facilities and equipment for recreational windsurfing, sailing and kayaking on a man-made reservoir. Run by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the centre offers inexpensive annual memberships; bring two pictures and your passport or Thai ID card to sign up.
