Family Fun at Farm Mor Por, Khao Yai

Imagine being amidst idyllic natural surroundings, immersed in cool and pure mountain air, while your children are happily playing and exploring. Look no further than Farm Mor Por, the first horse farm in Thailand established by a doctor – the one and only Dr. Nopadol Saropala, or “Mor Por”, an obstetrician at Bumrungrad International Hospital.

Just two hours from Bangkok by car, Farm Mor Por is situated on 16 rai in the midst of tourist country in Khao Yai, Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima province. It began as a hobby, based on a passion for horses. In the span of a few years, Mor Por has collected over 70 beautiful horses of varying breeds, including the Andalusian, Friesian, Arabian, Shire and Clydesdale, among many others. In addition, his menagerie includes chickens, ducks, geese, teacup pigs and goats.

Farm Mor Por readily opens its doors for visitors to experience life amidst nature. The farm’s activities include a day trip geared for children ages 5 to 12 years in age. Activities include tasks such as collecting eggs from over 400 free-range hens and feeding the animals. Kids can also tour the vegetable patches, learn more about different horse breeds, swim at a nearby creek and yes, learn how to ride and groom horses and ponies.

The doctor explains, “Spending time among nature is a good way to balance out urban living. Maybe once a week or whenever they have free time, dads, mums and kids can leave their busy lives in the city and spend time here – this builds a better quality of life and closer family relations.”

Moreover, visitors can partake in the farm’s overnight stay experience, a multi-day excursion that lasts from 1 to 4 nights. Basic but comfortable accommodations are available for up to 15 people. “This is wonderful for older children who can’t get enough of farm life. The activities are more rigorous, and include involvement in actual work on the farm,” says Mor Por. “Hard work is good for the soul.”
