Kid-Friendly Board Game Cafes in Bangkok

1 February 2016, BKK Kids

In the past few years, Bangkokians have re-discovered the joys of board games. Got a free afternoon? Check out one of these kid-friendly board game cafés around town. Playing time is usually priced at 50 baht per hour, or a flat rate of 150 to 250 baht for all-day play.

Kopi-O

Located in Sukhumvit 33, Kopi-O is a serious board game establishment, stocking over 800 titles that appeal to everyone, including younger players ages 5 and up. Kids will enjoy games such as Spot it!, Rhino Hero, Chicken Cha Cha Cha, Loopin’ Louie, Pick-a-Pig, The Enchanted Tower, Catan Junior and Dixit, among many others. A Game Master is around to offer tips. The café serves snack-type foods, ice cream, coffee and other drinks, and a small variety of savory Thai dishes consisting of either rice or noodles. There is limited parking on the premises.

Meeples & More

Housed in a two-story building in the Ruamrudee Village complex, this venue offers a cozy spot to enjoy a game or two, offering about 80 titles, including games for the younger set such as Gobblet Gobblers, Jungle Speed and Ghost Blitz; and family favourites like Forbidden Island and Ticket to Ride. The café is usually quiet on weekdays and they serve decent one-plate Thai dishes as well as snacks. Patient staff can you get started, explaining game rules as well as helping younger kids plan their moves. There is limited parking on the premises but the venue is not far from Ploenchit BTS station. Also, they are closed on Mondays.

More than a Game

Bangkok’s largest board game cafe, with two locations in the I’M Park mall located near Chulalongkorn University and on Sukhumvit Soi 49, features hundreds of board games for purchase or hourly in-house rental. Players have a wide variety of games to choose from this resurgent pastime, be it seminal European classics such as Carcassone, Ticket to Ride, and Settlers of Catan, a growing collection of translated non-Western games, or brand new games fresh out of crowd-funded Kickstarter campaigns! Younger players can also join in tailored workshop sessions. Helpful staff are on hand to help choose games for groups of all ages, as well as serve an all-day breakfast menu of sandwiches, drinks, and sweets.
