Bangkok Faces: Lisy Ros, EY Coordinator & Reception Teacher, Rasami British International School

Your Name: Lisy Ros

Job Title: Early Years Coordinator & Reception Teacher, Rasami British International School

What is your nationality and background?

I’m Cuban/Spanish.

What are the major responsibilities of your role?

To ensure the quality and integrity of all aspects of the Early Years program.

How did you become a teacher?

I was inspired by one of my teachers, who made a very positive impact on my education and personal development. That encouraged me to go to university and complete my teaching degree on Early Childhood Education.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The interaction with young human beings and how naturally and genuinely they express their ideas, feelings and their own personality.

What challenges do you face in your role?

The main challenge as a teacher and leader is to ensure that all children’s academic and personal needs are met at all times.

What are your interests other than teaching?

I enjoy exercising, dancing and spending time by the sea. My biggest passion is travelling and learning about other cultures.

What advice would you give to people coming to Bangkok to live and/or work for the first time?

Be open minded: Thai culture is probably very different to yours. Respect it and embrace its uniqueness. Travel: try to visit as many countries as possible in Asia while you are here; there are many interesting and beautiful places to go. Keep in touch with your loved ones. And try to learn Thai – don’t expect everyone to speak your language. Speaking Thai will make your daily life easier and, sometimes, cheaper!
