Bangkok Faces: Kru Ying, Co-founder of Little Yogi Bangkok

Your Name: Kru Ying

Job Title: Co-founder of Little Yogi Bangkok, Rainbow Kids Yoga Ambassador, Yoga Instructor

What is your nationality and background?

I’m a hundred percent Thai. Beside a yoga teacher, I’m a lecturer in Science Education at a university. With my background in science education, I learn to integrate science into my yoga class with the fun theme. So kids can learn both science to understand the nature and learn yoga to help them live happily.

What is your profession?

I’m a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200). I have completed the 200-hour Hot Yoga teacher training and obtained a certificate from Absolute Yoga Academy. I have also participated in Kids & Family Yoga teacher training from Rainbow Kids Yoga in Singapore, as well as Partner & Community Yoga teacher training in Melbourne, Australia. Now I teach kids and family yoga with Little Yogi Bangkok team, teach “love yoga class” at Yogatique Bangkok, and teach community yoga at my university.

What are the key skills and responsibilities of this role?

With extensive experience in community yoga, my class is fun and blissful in order to make everyone happy. Through the emphasis on sharing and caring, I also intend to build a community of students. My teaching philosophy is “WORK”, which stands for “Welcoming”, “Opening”, “Respect”, and “Kind”.

How did you get involved in your profession?

During my hard work as a PhD student in Science Education 10 years ago, I found that yoga taught me that all challenges and obstacles in my life can be overcome, which allows me to open up a whole new world of perspective. That’s why I am really in love with yoga! I would like to share my experience in practicing yoga with others.  So I decided to start my journey being a yoga teacher.

How does your role enhance the wellbeing or experience of children?

The more I teach, the more I learn that happiness is the key to teach yoga for everyone. We can make the world a better place if we can make people happy. And we can start from one kid at a time.

What challenges do you face in this role?

Kids and Family Yoga is quite new in Thailand. Sometimes yoga is considered as only a PE class for kids; however, yoga can also promote child development in various ways. With the background in education, I delicately plan the class to focuses not only physical but also mental and cognitive development.

What do you hope to achieve within your industry?

Happiness and little smiles of children are the keys of achievement.

Who or what inspires you?

Many people in my life have inspired me, including my parents, teachers, trainers, hubby and friends. Those wonderful people support me and encourage me to never stop doing what I truly love.

Only a Bangkok local would know …

International market on every Tuesday and Thursday at Srinakharinwirot University on Asok road is a place that you can’t miss. You can spend an hour or two enjoying local or fusion food, handmade stuff, clothes, jewelry or basically anything you want. I enjoy eating, shopping and people watching in the market almost every week.
